COMPLETE COLLAGRAPH

A two-day creative printmaking workshop.

Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 February 2027
10am - 5pm
My studio at The Mind Tree Cafe, Rowde, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10 2TQ

Limited to 6 people

Places are limited so that everyone receives plenty of individual guidance throughout the weekend.

Discover the rich, tactile world of collagraph printmaking and create your own unique prints.

Whether you’re completely new to collagraph or you’ve experimented with the process before, this immersive two-day course will give you the skills, confidence and creative freedom to develop your own collagraph plates and turn them into beautiful, expressive prints.

Make prints with texture, character and endless possibilities

Rather than carving into a plate, you build your printing surface using everyday materials, textures and found objects. Once inked and printed, these textures are transformed into rich layers, marks and tonal effects.

The beauty of collagraph is that there are no rigid rules. You can draw, paint, scrape, layer, glue and experiment, creating plates that are entirely personal to you.

Over this weekend, you’ll learn how to make the most of that creative freedom.

What you’ll learn

Across the two days, you’ll be guided through the collagraph process, from developing your initial ideas through to producing finished prints.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand the principles and possibilities of collagraph printmaking
  • Design and prepare a collagraph plate
  • Explore different materials and textures to create expressive surfaces
  • Build up layers to achieve line, texture, tone and depth
  • Prepare plates for printing
  • Apply and manipulate ink
  • Use the printing press confidently
  • Experiment with pressure, wiping and layering
  • Troubleshoot common printing problems
  • Develop a small collection of your own prints
  • Understand how to continue exploring collagraph at home

There will be plenty of opportunity to experiment, ask questions and discover what happens when you push the process a little further.

Who is the course for?

This course is suitable for:

Complete beginners - No previous printmaking experience is needed. You’ll be introduced to each stage step by step.

Artists and makers wanting to try something new - If you already work creatively, collagraph offers a completely different way to develop texture, tone and imagery.

Printmakers wanting to expand their practice - If you have some experience with printmaking, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to experiment and develop your own approach.

Most importantly, you don’t need to arrive with a perfectly formed idea. Come with curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
