Linocut printing is a versatile and accessible form of printmaking that allows you to create beautiful, handcrafted prints with ease. Whether you're looking to create art for the sheer joy of it or have dreams of showcasing your work, Learning Linocut will provide you with the knowledge and skills to start creating captivating, one-of-a-kind prints from your kitchen table.

What will I learn?

  • Introduction to Linocut: the history and techniques, as well as contemporary artists
  • The essential materials and tools used, including linoleum blocks, carving tools, and inks.
  • Studio safety and best practices when handling linocut tools
  • The principles of design and composition, allowing you to create visually compelling prints.
  • Methods for transferring your design onto lino, ensuring precision in your carving.
  • Carving techniques - including ‘jigsaw’
  • Ink application
  • Chine collé
  • Preparing the block to pulling prints and registration methods
  • Print using a relief press and burnish by hand.
