Festive Linocut Cards

A relaxed morning of crafty, creative Christmas printmaking!

Date: Saturday 7th November 2026

Time: 10am - 1pm, a three-hour creative start to the day.

Get into the festive spirit with a few hours of slow, satisfying printmaking.

In this friendly, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the basics of linocut printing and create your own collection of handmade Christmas cards to send, share or keep.

You’ll design a simple festive image, carve your own lino block and learn how to hand-print it onto card. No printing press is needed, so you’ll learn a process you can easily continue at home.

Whether you’re new to linocut or have some experience already, I’ll guide you through each stage and help you get the most from your tools.

MAKE YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS CARDS

We’ll explore simple, effective linocut designs inspired by the festive season - think winter foliage, wreath, stars, trees, birds, decorations, seasonal patterns and cosy Christmas imagery.

You don’t need to be good at drawing. I’ll show you how to simplify your ideas into designs that work beautifully as prints.

You’ll have time to experiment with carving and printing before settling into a rhythm and producing your own little edition of cards.

There’s something particularly lovely about sending a Christmas card that has been designed, carved and printed by hand.

The atmosphere will be relaxed and welcoming, with demonstrations, plenty of hands-on making and individual guidance throughout.

What you’ll learn

During the session, I’ll show you how to:
  • Develop a simple festive image for linocut
  • Transfer your design onto lino
  • Use lino-cutting tools safely and confidently
  • Create bold shapes, patterns and textures
  • Ink your block evenly
  • Hand-print your design onto cards
  • Make multiple prints from the same block
  • Experiment with placement and simple variations

You’ll be printing by hand, so you can continue printing at home.

MAKE SOMETHING PERSONAL

Your cards don’t have to look like traditional Christmas cards. You could create a tiny winter landscape, a favourite plant, a simple star pattern, a robin, a woodland creature or an abstract seasonal design.

You might even create a design based on something meaningful to you, making your Christmas post feel a little more personal.

What you’ll take home

You’ll leave with a collection of your own hand-printed festive cards, ready to send to friends and family, along with your lino block and the skills to keep printing at home.

You’ll also have spent three lovely hours away from screens and Christmas shopping, making something slowly and by hand.

What to bring

Please bring:
  1. A few festive ideas or reference images of your own (not copies of other artists work)
  2. An apron or clothes you don’t mind getting inky
  3. A folder or bag to carry your prints home safely.
All other materials are provided.

A LITTLE FESTIVE TIME FOR YOURSELF

Christmas can arrive with plenty of lists, plans and things to do.

This is an opportunity to do something different.

Put the lists aside for a few hours. Pick up a pencil. Make some marks. Get your hands inky.

Enjoy the quiet satisfaction of pulling your first print. Then take home something handmade to share with the people you love.

Come and make your Christmas cards the old-fashioned way, one print at a time.
